CEOCFO: Dr. Klein, would you tell about C-COM Satellite Systems and the market you are in? What are you selling?
Dr. Klein: I started C-COM with my partner Bilal Awada 29 years ago. The company has developed a robotic satellite antenna that can be deployed by anyone at the press of a button. It has been designed for people who do not know anything about satellites, they don’t want to know much about satellites, but they want to be able to connect rapidly to a satellite constellations that they want to use for internet access, for emails and in general for communication from a remote area where no connectivity exists. The antenna makes it possible for a truck driver or disaster management individual, fireman or a soldier to establish communications at a press of a button. It usually takes an hour or more to point an antenna to the appropriate satellite and requires knowledge and tools to do this. We manufacture vehicle mount and transportable antennas. The vehicle mounted antennas are located on top of a vehicle and deploy at the press of a button and connect automatically to any satellite anywhere in the world. Transportable antennas could be Flyways that come in transportable cases that can easily be carried by one or 2 people and are deployed on tripods as well Manpack versions which fit into a backpack and can be carried by one person. These antennas can be assembled without any tools in a few minutes; are tripod based and can find a satellite in less than 30 seconds.
These types of antennas are called Communication-On-the-Pause because if you are using these from a vehicle or from a transportable case, you must be stationary before you can use them. C-COM is also developing a new electronic antenna (called Communications-on-the-move) which will make it possible to communicate while the vehicle is moving and will be adaptable to aero and marine environments as well.
This new antenna will also be useable on LEO/MEO and GEO satellites and will operate in Ka-band. LEO satellites move constantly in low earth orbit, while MEO satellite move in medium earth orbit and GEO satellites are stationary as they rotate with the speed of the earth rotation, thus appear to be always in the same location.
Since we started the business almost 30 years ago, many things have changed in the satellite space and new antennas as well as new services are changing the way we communicate. New LEO constellations consisting of thousands of satellites have been deployed by SpaceX and Amazon and many new ones are soon to be deployed worldwide into LEO/MEO and GEO orbits and will deliver tremendous amount of bandwidth to the earth population.
C-COM has kept pace with the development of new antennas for many new vertical applications, and we are now in the final stages of manufacturing our Electronically Steered antennas that we call iNetVu in Motion. They will be deployable to work with multiple orbits and will work on LEO/MEO and GEO constellations anywhere in the world. The heart of these antennas are beamformer integrated circuits (BFIC’s) which make it possible for the antenna to form and transmit the beam towards the satellite and also receive the signal from the satellite while both the satellite as well as the vehicle, train, plane or vessel are in full motion. C-COM has designed and will be manufacturing these integrated circuits for use with our own electronically steered antennas.
We are a relatively small company with 26 people. Most of our employees are engineers and software developers working from our Ottawa, Canada office but we also have a development team located on the campus of the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario where the electronic antenna and the beamformer ICs are being developed. This team consists of graduate engineers with advanced degrees in communications. C-COM has a very close working relationship with and collaborates with the University on the development of new and advanced technology satellite communication products.
While the company is small in the number of people it employs, it is active in over 100 countries through 600 independent integrators/resellers. These resellers have sold and installed over 11,000 antennas to date. C-COM outsources locally all its manufacturing and has an extensive inventory worth $6 million. Using this inventory of antennas, the company can rapidly fulfill orders to its resellers around the world. The company has no debt and a working capital of $20 million, is listed on the Toronto stock exchange under the symbol CMI as well as on the OTCQB exchange in New York under the symbol of CYSNF.
CEOCFO: When we last talked in early 2025, we discussed how the industry was in flux because of the introduction of the low-orbit satellites. Where do we stand with that today industry wide?
Dr. Klein: Industry wise, the constellation that is getting most of the attention is Space X’s Starlink, closely followed by the new Amazon LEO constellation. As I mentioned before many more constellations will be launched over the years. Telesat is building their Lightspeed LEO constellation on which C-COM has already tested our new electronically steered antenna and continues to test on other satellites as well. Many countries around the world are working on becoming satellite communication independent and own their own satellites for security and souverain reasons.
Governments around the world and even private companies are demanding that the data does not leave their country, and for many other reasons, they want to be self-sufficient, they want to own and operate their satellites. You will see a lot of constellations going up, both geostationary, medium-earth orbit, and low-earth orbit that will be operated and run by countries around the world.
CEOCFO: What are you doing now that will give you an edge?
Dr. Klein: The new electronically steered antennas that we are bringing to market along with the Beamformer IC’s are a departure from the well-established and previously exclusively used parabolic antennas. These new antennas will require new services and new constellations to be deployed on. We are well ahead of the others who will be entering the market as we have started the development 10 years ago and have extensive expertise in designing these new technologies. I believe that C-COM is well positioned to enter this new and exciting worldwide market that is going to be the future of satellite communications for many years to come. The market is estimated to grow into many billions of dollars for both the electronic antennas as well as for the beamformer IC’s. We believe that even a small percentage of this global market will catapult the company into new markets and new opportunities and will generate new incremental revenues for the company.
CEOCFO: I am drawn to C-COM’s market leadership in auto-acquire antenna technology. I am particularly excited about your forward-looking R&D, such as the development of the new multi-orbit (LEO, MEO, GEO) flat panel antennas and beamformer integrated circuits. How are they apply to global markets?
Dr. Klein: As mentioned before our technology is designed to operate on any LEO/GEO and MEO satellite. It is Multiorbit capable and will work with any open architecture satellite service. While SpaceX and Amazon are closed networks and only equipment manufactured by these companies can work on these, we believe that many others around the world will be open architecture systems and will support generic antennas like what C-COM is now manufacturing.
With regards to our beamformer IC we believe that this development will also generate incremental revenues for the company as we intend to sell these new IC’s to any other company needing efficient and cost effective beamformers for IoT and many other satellite specific applications.
CEOCFO: Would you tell us about iNetVu®?
Dr. Klein: The iNetVu is a brand name for all our antennas. It would be similar to the iPhone brand name associated with its manufacturer, Apple. C-COM’s iNetVu brand is recognized worldwide for innovative design, ease of use, high reliability and extreme durability. We expect our iNetVu in Motion flat panel antennas to continue this tradition.
CEOCFO: C-COM sells worldwide; how many countries are you in today and would you like to expand your reach?
Dr. Klein: The company is in over 105 countries around the world. As I mentioned, we have over 11 thousand antennas deployed there. We work only with integrators and resellers. We do not sell direct. The resellers own the customers. We sell to them our products, which they resell to their customers around the world. They install, support and provide the warranty to their customers.
We are constantly looking to expand our reach through cooperation with larger companies looking for new and innovative products as well as constantly expanding our reseller network around the world.
CEOCFO: Are Manpack satellite antennas for oil and gas?
Dr. Klein: This versatile and innovative product that can be carried by one person and assembled in under 10 minutes without any tools has been deployed around the world for military use as well as for disaster recovery and cellular backhaul. In Japan alone we have almost 300 units deployed with a single Telco for cellular back haul. We have many others deployed with militaries and disaster management companies. It can connect to a satellite at the press of a button in under 30 seconds.
Based on the Manpack design, we have developed a LEO tracking antenna that will track LEO satellites. This is a new product recently announced, and we believe it will find many uses with the up-and-coming LEO and MEO constellations.
CEOCFO: In May of 2026 you put out a release saying you received $1.35 million in antenna orders. Would you tell us about that?
Dr. Klein: The bulk of this order is for on the pause vehicle mount parabolic antennas for military vehicles in Asia. This customer has been purchasing C-COM antennas from us for the past 20 years. They like the reliability, dependability and precision as well as the cost effectiveness of these antennas which have been proven to work even in the most adverse conditions.
CEOCFO: You have been profitable for most of your 29 years in business. That is quite an accomplishment; what do you attribute that to?
Dr. Klein: We have been profitable for most of the past 29 years, and we have also paid over $25 million in dividends to our shareholders. We have no debt and have over $20 million in working capital that helps us to fund our own research and development. We manage our spending carefully and run a very lean operation as we do not want to be looking for funding and expect to bring all of our new designs to market with our own funds.
This seems to be relatively rare with technology companies but we have managed to do this now successfully for the past 29 years.
CEOCFO: In closing, what is the takeaway; what should readers remember about the C-COM story today?
Dr. Klein: The big story will be the newly developed phased array antennas that are going to change the way communications are going to be delivered worldwide. We will be testing them in the next 30 days and having them certified for use with satellite operators worldwide. We are also looking into deploying these into military environments and we hope that the combination of electronic flat panel antennas and beamformer IC’s, which should be on the market by early next year as well will be able to position the company into new markets generating incremental revenues. We expect that you will hear more about these products and C-COM, as they are being introduced and accepted by the market place with existing and new customer.
