Kerio Technologies Proudly Presents Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1, the Most
Comprehensive Desktop Firewall Solution Available Free for Home Use

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Kerio Technologies Inc., publisher of the popular WinRoute Pro network firewall software, has developed a new product to secure desktop computers. Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1 addresses the latest security vulnerabilities to provide safe Internet browsing at no cost to home users.
The key feature of any effective firewall is the stateful inspection of
packets. Kerio Personal Firewall (KPF) inspects all traffic entering and
leaving the desktop to ensure only authorized communication is permitted. KPF will block all inbound traffic by default, rendering the system invisible to random scans by hackers.
KPF requires the user to authorize any new connection attempts; creating a rule to permanently approve or block a connection attempt is as simple as
checking a box. KPF filters by application, so known applications can be
permitted and suspicious programs, such as spyware, can be denied. To prohibit a Trojan horse from posing as a trusted application, KPF assigns a digital signature to each program. The system alerts the user when the signature for a program does not match. Advanced users can edit and add rules manually, set KPF to log specific rule-based traffic, and view all open connections from the Firewall Status interface.
Some programs that take control of desktops for malicious purposes do so
by installing drivers at the kernel level of the operating system. Kernel
level drivers can bypass firewall rules because they operate at the same level as the firewall. KPF detects the attempt to install such drivers, warns of the potential threat and asks if the user would like to deny the activity.
Kerio Personal Firewall includes an auto update feature, which notifies
the user when a new version is available for download. Corporate customers
will appreciate the option to load a configuration file from a remote location
when setting up multiple systems with the software. The syslog and remote
administration capabilities in KPF help corporations manage remote users who connect to the internal network via a VPN connection.
"Kerio is proud to offer a reliable firewall solution for personal
computers that is powerful yet easy to use, making it appropriate for both
home and office environments," says Martin Viktora, CEO of Kerio Technologies.
"Anti-virus software, although vital, is insufficient to protect from data
theft or denial of service attacks. KPF keeps system files and resources out
of the hands of wrongdoers, while allowing full access to the benefits the
Internet can provide."
