CEOCFO: Ms. Gelardi, what is the vision behind Siani and what does the name mean?

Ms. Gelardi: I chose the name Siani because it means God is gracious and my story is nothing less. I adopted a little boy at birth. He was having a difficult time thriving until I switched from store bought formulas to making his milk with natural ingredients and probiotics. He started to thrive. Then I started to use probiotics on his skin to see if the patches of eczema would clear up. Nothing had worked until I used the probiotics topically. Those patches have never returned. He is still taking probiotics internally and daily use of topical probiotics keeps his skin healthy and balanced. A shield of protective good bacteria is peace of mind for any mom. This was the start of a much bigger vision. Protecting children and helping them thrive with all natural live probiotics became my passion. I was determined to help other children all over the world with topical probiotics. Now Siani’s passion has grown into protecting and helping babies, children, teens, adults, pets and the environment, the natural way, without using harsh chemicals or anything else that may be harmful to people, pets and the environment.

CEOCFO: Where do probiotics come in, for external use?

Ms. Gelardi: Billions of microscopic bacteria already call our body home.

Probiotics are micro-organisms that help restore the beneficial bacteria that protect us from harmful contaminants by eliminating the Biofilm layer that protects harmful pathogens. This biofilm that is created by pathogens and other bacteria serves to protect colonies of harmful bacteria, as well as hold dirt, support viruses and other problematic substances. The healthy bacteria in Siani’s products immediately start to break down the biofilm that coats all surfaces including our skin.

Probiotics have been shown to reduce the threat of infection and reinforce the skin’s natural defenses against bad bacteria, pollution, and free radical damage. By producing antimicrobials and compounds that reduce the skin’s pH, probiotics also protect your skin from transient pathogens that could disrupt normal skin function.

When applied topically, probiotics have also been found to provide numerous benefits. Like dietary probiotics impact your stomach’s biome, probiotic skincare products promote a healthy skin biome by influencing the types of bacteria that live on your skin.

CEOCFO: How do they work?

Ms. Gelardi: According to the Center for Disease Control: The general public is unaware of the existence of biofilm that microscopically coats almost all surfaces, including skin, and creates plaque on teeth. It is extremely difficult to control the microscopic environment of any surface without being able to remove the biofilm and prevent its regrowth. Biofilm is estimated to be a key factor in up to 80% of all infections. Biofilm helps protect pathogens from disinfectants and antibiotics.

Conventional sanitizing and cleaning methods are short-lived, leave a residue, and don’t dissolve the biofilm layer, which protects pathogens. The major and key advantage of our patented beneficial bacteria is that they immediately start to break down the biofilm coating all surfaces. This biofilm that is created by pathogens and other bacteria serves to protect colonies of harmful bacteria, as well as hold dirt, support viruses and other problematic substances. Our patented blend of healthy probiotics works at the microscopic level to significantly reduce the transfer of pathogens (virus, bacteria, or other micro-organisms that cause disease/infection) to humans from all surfaces eliminating the pathogen’s biofilm where pathogens, viruses, and other contaminants reside and thrive. In addition, our beneficial probiotics immediately go to work stabilizing your environment to reduce allergens and other sources of problems, irritants & odors.

What is essential to understand, is that it is the good bacteria simply replacing the bad ones.

CEOCFO: Would you tell us about your new topical probiotic sanitizers?

Ms. Gelardi: Siani’s new line of probiotic sanitizers microscopically clean the surface, counteract the growth of pathogens and aid in the control of surface microbial contamination to help keep human hands, mouths, and living environments free of harmful pathogens. All 3 new products contain a specially formulated, proprietary, broad-spectrum, natural blend of live, safe, healthy probiotics in a concentrated, stabilized solution that, when sprayed, floods the surface area with billions of safe, healthy bacteria.

My favorite of the three new products is the Probiotic Environmental Purifier. This spray can be used on virtually all hard and soft surfaces, including phones, keyboards, doorknobs, desks, countertops, toilets, and bedding. Safe for inhalation and direct spray on the skin; it is multi-purpose. It can also be used in HVAC units. It’s safe to use around children and pets. It floods the air with good probiotics, cleans down to the microscopic level and eliminates the biofilm that shields dirt, harmful bacteria and other contaminants, reducing the risk of infection, odors, mold and mildew.

Just as popular is our Probiotic Hand Sanitizer containing 73% alcohol. Like regular hand sanitizers, Siani’s hand sanitizer kills the good and bad bacteria on your skin, but what makes our product especially unique is our formulation includes billions of live, healthy bacteria that activate once they make contact with your skin. Our patented beneficial bacteria continue to work eliminating biofilm and other pathogens that you come in contact with for hours after application unlike other hand sanitizers, disinfectants and cleaners. We have the hospital studies on our website that show the difference in how our probiotic products are long lasting compared to products without probiotics.

Siani Probiotic Mouthwash is getting a lot of attention. No alcohol. No fluoride. No Artificial colors or flavors. Non GMO. No preservatives or chemicals what so ever. When gargled, floods the mouth with billions of safe, beneficial bacteria that rids the mouth of harmful pathogens and promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria to fight the entrance of pathogens into the body. These microscopic cleaners will work to eliminate plaque that causes odors and cavities.

CEOCFO: What is the interest from the public?  Are more people looking for this type of product increasing?

Ms. Gelardi: I definitely have noticed a growing interest in topical probiotics since we began 6 years ago with our first topical probiotic product, BabyBiotics for babies and children. About 5 years ago we learned that our BabyBiotics spray was helping children in Vietnam and other countries with the hand foot mouth virus and the prevention of spreading the virus. Every year a month into the school year the interest for this product sky rockets. The same happened after China became infected with the coronavirus. Surrounding countries started ordering bottles and our distributors in Vietnam, Turkey and Australia were ordering 100’s at a time. I took this as an opportunity to prepare for our country. Siani doubled the concentration of our 3 topical probiotic sprays at no additional cost to customers. And our manufacturing plant was running overtime to keep up with demand. This is also when we started creating new products that would be beneficial during the virus and quite honestly all the time.

CEOCFO: How do you reach out both to customers and in terms of education as well?

Ms. Gelardi: Our website is a platform for educating interested people on topical probiotics and Siani’s specially formulated products containing our proprietary, broad-spectrum, natural blend of live, safe, healthy probiotics. Our website contains a shop with our products and information on biofilm, topical probiotics, research, clinical studies and more.

Recently, I was asked to interview with our TV station here in Fort Myers. The person interviewing me seemed as interested in how topical probiotics work as others in the community. I definitely see more people becoming curious about these microscopic workers.

Another way we started reaching out to educate people is through a commercial that just came out from Sarasota to Marco Island. Our commercial airs during prime spots and brings interested people to our site for further education.

I definitely have stepped out of my comfort zone with interviews, videos, panels, and TV. I do this because I am passionate about sharing the benefits and protection we all have the opportunity to experience through topical probiotics. It’s not “why would we use natural topical probiotics”…it’s “why wouldn’t we”?

CEOCFO: Do you find the medical community accepting or at least not rejecting the idea?

Ms. Gelardi: I have mentioned topical probiotics to different medical professionals and unfortunately most of them say they haven’t heard of topical probiotics. And it ended there. However, I have had an entirely opposite experience when I have mentioned topical probiotics to pediatric professionals, medical and dentistry. They are listening and asking questions. This gives me tremendous hope!

I also find professionals in the alternative healthcare to be very interested and recommending our products to others.  This would include wellness clinics, acupuncture and chiropractic professionals. We have a couple local wellness clinics that are carrying our products and they sell them all the time, they are already onboard. If they are looking for alternative health, then they are extremely interested in our topical probiotic products. We have pharmacies and eco-friendly businesses asking to provide our products.

CECOFO: Is there a lot of competition?

Ms. Gelardi: There are other topical probiotics available so hopefully we are getting the word out there. I am not sure about the bacteria that other companies are using, but the proprietary blend of beneficial bacteria used in Siani’s formulations is patented, hospital tested and approved, clinically studied, non gmo and approved for organic use.

CEOCFO: How do you decide when to introduce a new product?  What is your business method?

Ms. Gelardi: In light of growing concern about viruses, the strength of Siani’s regular line of skincare sprays, BabyBiotics, FemBiotics and MenBiotics, has been doubled to add more protection with no increase in sale price. These probiotic skincare sprays can be applied everywhere on the body to fight pathogens, which cause a whole host of problems, including diaper rash, cold sores, jock itch, acne, yeast infections, and more. Although these were not new products, due to the pandemic concern, we did what we needed to do to help.

I learned from one of my distributors for Vietnam that Siani’s BabyBiotics is used with great success for Hand-Foot-Mouth disease. It’s used on children infected and also uninfected children to prevent spreading of the virus. Knowing this, we make sure we are prepared for the “season” which is about a month or so into the school year.

I work at a school and when I start seeing many absences due to cold and flu season, I know to make sure I have enough inventory. Also people use on dry, cracked skin during very cold weather, and very hot weather with sunburns, bug bites, and rash due to sweating.

The decision to introduce our new products originated from conversations with distributors in other countries and the reality for them with the Covid-19 threat. First I thought about what I can do to help these countries close to China, and then the reality of the virus spreading to the USA. I am happy we got a head start on it because everything was open and supplies were not limited at that time.

Listening to people’s fears and needs helps me to explore further my passion to be a part of making a difference in their lives.

CEOCFO: How is business?

Ms. Gelardi: Business has definitely increased since the coronavirus pandemic. I believe people are researching ways to protect themselves, their families and their environments. This has lead them to the research and education on topical probiotic cleaners and our proprietary blend of live probiotics and our products. Where our Probiotic Hand Sanitizer, Probiotic Environmental Purifier, Probiotic Sprays for People and Pets and Probiotic Mouthwash has been our main sellers during the pandemic, we have taken the opportunity to send samples of our skincare in these orders. In the last week sales have increased for our skincare products. Once you try them, you love them! A few years ago, Siani teamed with the scientists who manufacture the probiotic-derivative Bonicel. Our skincare line is formulated with the power of a science backed probiotic derived personal care ingredient with 44 global patents in skincare. Clinical studies show that topical use of probiotic derivatives will help skin look younger and healthier. Our skincare products are formulated with Bonicel, natural and organic ingredients.

CEOCFO: Do you need to maintain much inventory?

Ms. Gelardi: Our visits to our lab in Florida have definitely been more frequent these days. The products we seem to sell as quickly as we have them produced are BabyBiotics for kids, Probiotic Hand Sanitizer and the Probiotic Environmental Purifier. So far we have been able to continue to provide for our country. Our lab shut down for a while, but is currently up and running. Planning ahead is important. Our country is starting to open up after weeks of quarantine. They are going to want to protect themselves, so we are prepared.

CEOCFO: Why is Siani an important company?

Ms. Gelardi: Siani is an important company created by a small group of women passionate about helping and protecting people all over the world with products specially formulated with proprietary, broad-spectrum, natural blends of live, safe, and healthy probiotics. Our hope is to make a difference in people’s lives with our products.
